I must say the hardest part is trying to decide which is the cutest. I would finish one (like the Monkey) and think THIS IS SO CUTE! Until, I finished the next (like the Dragon) and would then think, NO - THIS ONE IS SO CUTE!!

They were all very quick and easy to make even though this was my first crochet project. I got sidetracked a few times but I finally finished and was able to give them to Ingrid on her visit this weekend. And boy, did I get a reaction! The only problem was they were crocheted and I don't know how to crochet. I had a neighbor when I was little (about 100 years ago) who did a lot of crocheting -- especially those lovely hats made out of beer cans -- and she would show me how to crochet with her. I never made anything except for one huge, ugly granny square. But, I thought I would give these a shot.

I was surprised how easy it was to make these. I practiced a little and watched a video just to be sure I was doing it correctly. They come together really quick and are SO CUTE. I was struggling trying to sew the little arms & legs on without messing up all of my work. But again, I found a great video showing how to do it and it also cut down on my "sewing" time.

Believe it or not, this is a great first-time crochet project. I noticed a few things while undertaking this project:

I found it easier to sew on the arms, legs, etc. before I stuffed the head and body, but that could just be me.

I added a couple of tails (to the rabbit and pig), but I could be a little booty-obsessed.

Watching a couple of quick videos on the web really made the process go much quicker and easier.

I had a lot of fun with this project. Hope you do too!!

Back with a Vengance!

(Wow, sounds like a bad Stephen Segal movie.)

I've been hitting the needles hard. I just got this HUGE box from my secret pal. I haven't opened the card yet. I was so excited with all of the gifts in the box, I had to post a picture right away! Here it is:

Look at all of the GOODIES! It's like Christmas in August!! I've got some patterns, the Knitting Answer Book (Lord knows I need that!), a 2007 planner, stitch holders (which I need too), hand cream, spa treatment, stickers, double pointed needles (baby bootie size!) , a Tide to go pen and so much more (whew...)! There is also some very incredible .... should I say 'decadent' ... yarn! Oh my, this will cause problems. When I get really nice yarn, I have a hard time deciding what to knit with it. I love it sooo much I'm always afraid I will "mess it up." I've signed up for a couple of upcoming classes, so I think I will save some of this (mmm, the Silk, or the BEE-YOU-TIFF-FUL Cherry Hill or ...) for the class. Then, I'll be knitting "supervised" and there will be someone there to be sure I do it justice and not mess it up.

Now, I'm going to open the card and REVEAL just who my sensational secret pal is ...... (you find the BEST cards - I love the dragon flies!) ..... AAAAAARRGGGG I didn't get a name! Well, I hope I find out who you are so I may thank you "in person" (or at least on your site).

We are all just so excited around here, but I think Bandit sums up how I feel the best:

YIPPEE!! I haven't posted in quite a while. Our cable was out for a while, then I got busy, blah blah blah. Isn’t it strange when you’re so busy that you don’t have time to write anything. Then, when you’re not, you sit down to write and it’s like, let’s see – what did I do? …… ah, nothing. What’s up with that?

But I’ll try to make up for it – quickly. Let’s see, my niece had a baby boy, so now I’m a Great Aunt (again), but then again, I thought I always was a great aunt (snicker, snicker). And what did I make the baby? The aforementioned Angel Blanket, a Kimono, (from Mason Dixon knitting) with a matching hat (from One Skein).

Also the cutest pair of booties that you have EVER SEEN (Dockers from Rowan Babies) and another matching hat. This may be the best thing since sliced bread. I bought him this steamer. And it can steam clean & sanitize ANYTHING! It can steam clothes, hub caps, grills, windows, shower doors, toilets, bathtubs without any scrubbing. It is truly amazing - maybe the 8th wonder of the world. Hmm, or was that Sugar Hill? Maybe the 9th wonder of the world. I would show you how quickly, easily and lovely it made our grout in the kitchen floor, but I'm afraid the "before" picture is just too scary & embarrassing.

And what else did he get? That's right, he's offically an old man, because he has one of these on the front porch:

Ah, paybacks!

I got a package from my Secret Pal! I've updated my "Current Meds" (in the sidebar). I've got to make another freaking baby bonnet/bootie and hopefully a baby blankey too (patterns TBD-suggestions welcome). I think I have a month to crank it out. I've started a birthday present for AM my Irish bud whose birthday is at the end of this month. So, I'm making her a little "Wearing O' the Green." I really LOVE the pattern and the yarn. I found the pattern in the 24 hour Book or Things to Make in a Weekend or something to that effect.

It said 14 hours - mmm, how do they time that? Is that in wo-manhours or sitting still without moving? I've been working on it for about a week and it's coming along nicely - but I AIN'T finished! Here's a peek:

It's hard to tell by these pictures, but the yarn is a pretty green with a few yellow specks. I have to add some glass beads to the fringe once it's done (never worked with beads before - should be interesting). But, I like the way it's looking so far and I think it will look MAHRVAHLOUZ on her. If I have time, I'll try to squeeze in the matching hat. I'll keep you posted. It's so nice to be knitting again. It's a little tough with everything else going on (still fixing the house, working on the yard, flowers, plants) and the wonderful weather that we're having. But, oh, once you start, you wonder why and how you could ever let it lapse ...

I'm also ordering my stash for the Tempting KAL that's starting up. I'm really, really, really going to do it. Seriously. I AM! Who knew?

Did I tell you what I got as bday gifts? Loads of stuff: iTunes gift card, STARBUCKS CARD, mani/pedi gift certificate, Red Door Spa One Hour Massage (oh, force me to do that!), a plethora of homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (bad people), and - what I have always, always wanted - a rocking chair! I'm about to lose control and I think I like it. Okay, enough of the 80s flashbacks. The weather has been awesome here and we’ve been doing a lot of “house work.” Over Memorial Day weekend, I think I - oops, WE - planted over 30+ flowers in the front yard, put up a mailbox, flag, flower beds, etc. The place is shaping up quite nicely, but we still have a ways to go.

I’ve been quite the knit-slacker lately. But, I am ready for a new challenge. I have some beautiful yarn that I bought with a Christmas gift certificate but I’ve been afraid to dive into it. (It’s just TOO PRETTY!) I’d really like to make a summer tank/t-shirt type top. It has to be very cool to wear because – “It’s not the heat – it’s the humidity.” (If you’re from the Right Coast, you know EXACTLY what I mean!) It also has to be an easy pattern because I don’t want to screw up the yarn. I need something that will fit and look flattering on a Big Girl (tall, broad shoulders, endowed). We don’t use the “p-word” around here much (i.e. “petite”). Does anyone know of an easy 1st tank/t-shirt to knit? I could use all the help I can get.

We’re planning a little trip this weekend. Seymour and I are going to Charlottesville and staying in a BnB. I’m really looking forward to it. It’s only for the weekend, but it should be a nice break. I’m hoping that we get to Skyline Drive and do a little hiking. If it’s not too hot, it’d be SWEET. It will be nice to get away from work, town, house, cats, dog and kids and just spend some time together. Just the two of us .... (man, more 80s flashbacks. What's up with that??)

Hope yall have a GREAT weekend!!

SP8 - All About ME!

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I'm a new knitter so I'm not very "experienced." I've led a very sheltered life when it comes to yarns. Just like us, I think it ALL needs love! I'm not a yarn snob so I wouldn't say that I hate anything. But, I could definetly do without having to look at that Fun Fur stuff ever again. I'm a little fluffy myself, so I just like it light and soft. I just started something with the Rowan cork (my first Rowan) and I have to say that I'm quite impressed with it. I love that it has a little "give."

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
I've got a few yarn bags (just got the pirate bag from anatomy of a skirt - it roxs). Dope -- that's another picture I need to post. I've been planning on making one of the needle rolls shown in Stitch N Bitch, but haven't quite got there yet. I saw one made from a beuaitufl asian-design fabric, but then when back to the store and POOF it was gone. What was the question? Oh yeah, needle storage, my tote bags and a wine bottle holder-thingy.

3. How long have you been knitting? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
I've been knitting for a year last Thanksgiving. I'd like to say I'm intermediate, but I'd be lying! I'm still a beginner. I know NOTHING. I just started a cable scarf and have been ECSTATIC that I could actually cable. I've also done my first "pseudo-sock" by making the Pedicure sock from Knitty (but on the left one). I'd like to get into sweaters, tanks, and ponchos, but I'm slightly intimidated. I'd have to say that I can make a darn good scarf. (Jeez, hope that's not my forte!)

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Actually, I don't think that I do. That's a great idea. I'll get started on it and let you all know!

5. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)
I really like “citrus-y” and “herb-y” smells. I have a candle that I like which is cucumber/mint (go figure) and it really smells nice. I also like most of the scents in Pier 1 (I think the Cilantro/Lime may be my favorite). I like anything as long as it is not too sweet/flowery.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?
Yes. Yes. Please no!

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?
Never tried spinning. We just moved into a new (used) house so we're doing a lot of FIY stuff there. I do a tiny bit of sewing - but mostly just for crafty items.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
Love music - ALL types. And yes, my computer plays MP3s. I've got an iPOD and a few music accounts so I've got almost everything out there. I like pop, rock, hip hop, rap, country, gospel, hard rock, funk, R&B, and on and on.

9. What's your favorite color? Or--do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer? Any colors you just can't stand?
I think I'm a "cool" person. I wear the pink, purples and things that have "blue" undertones. I have blonde hair (right now!) and violet eyes (right now!) and light/pink/freckled skin. I like a good mix of almost all colors. I like basic combos (black/white), earthy combos (black/brown), and I'm really into the pink/brown funky combos now. The only color that I really CAN'T wear is that bright aqua/tourqoise blue.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
I'm a "newlywed" - we just had our first anniversary! I have 2 fabulous stepkids (16 & 17). We have 2 cats and a dog.

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
Yes, yep, yeah and uh-huh!

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
I think my “forte” may be scarves. Seems to be the only thing I’ve done consistently well. I really want to spread out into ponchos and sweaters, but I’m a little gun shy. I made one sweater (which I really like) but it came out 2 sizes too big. I want to redo it one day. I think I need one successful item of clothing under my belt and I’d be good to go.

13. What are you knitting right now?
I need to start the 2nd sock for the pedicure socks on knitty (they are TOO cute). I've started the Irish Knitting Scarf to learn to cable. Oh yeah, I've got the holiday red poncho which I'd forgotten about. And there's this scarf.... oh my, this is getting embarrassing. Okay, I'm working on the 2nd pedicure sock and the Irish Knitting Scarf.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?
Sure.

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
Uh yeah! I love circular needles but I've found for some things (like scarves) they seem to come out better on straight needles. I like bamboo, aluminum and plastic, but I think there's a special place in my heart for bamboo needles. (There's a new INTERCHANGEABLE bamboo set that I am SOOO lusting for!) I've heard alot of people rave about the Addi Turbos and I'd like to try them out one day. I'm just not sure if I'm advanced enough to use them.

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?
No, but I did date a guy named Swift once, but lets not go there.

17. How did you learn to knit?
My coworker was knitting a lot of things and talking about it. I learned to crochet when I was a wee lass, but never learned to knit. I tried a couple of times on my own, but it was basically a disaster. Since my coworker was knitting (and she’s NOT in her 60’s), I thought it would be okay for me to take a class and learn to knit (without having people snicker behind my back). I went to the LYS (which is my FAVORITE LYS, by the way) and I was instantly ADDICTED (although I still hear snickering... ).

18. How old is your oldest UFO?
I haven't been knitting for that long, so I'd have to say a year old.

19. What is your favorite holiday?
Mmm, I really like them all. It used to be Halloween without a doubt. I loved dressing up and looking silly. I don’t get to dress up much anymore, so its not such a big deal anymore. Christmas is always great, but sometimes there is so much stress that you don’t get to sit back and enjoy it. My anniversary (which I’ve only had 1 of) rates pretty high up there. It was such a fun and fantastic day that I love to celebrate and think about it. I guess I’d have to pick my birthday as my favorite holiday now. I know there’s the whole “getting a year older thing” but it’s also ALL ABOUT ME – ME – ME!!! What’s better than that? Besides, as my mother – the old bag – would say, “Getting another year older sure beats the alternative!” Well said, Mom, well said.

20. Is there anything that you collect?
Not especially.

21. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
Yes, lots. I'll try to list some later.
I don't think I've subscribed to any knitting magazines. (Are there any?)

22. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn?
Oh yeah! I'd love to learn entrelac! There's a purse I'm dying to make (Market Squares), but I totally don't understand the concept. I haven't "felted" yet, but I'm dying to do it. I guess this project will kill two birds with one Stone! (ahh haa haa) I also would eventually like to learn the whole Miters-thing too.

23. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?
Not really. I've only done Knitty's Pedicure socks and I don't think that counts. How do you measure your foot?? Uh, ladies size 10?

24. When is your birthday? My Secret Pal 8 questionnaire:

3. Do you have any pets?
I'm a "newlywed" - we just had our first anniversary! I have 2 fabulous stepkids (16 & 17).

16. How did you learn to knit?

18. That's all I can do for now. Whew - I'm not sure I've ever talked so much about me! I've definetly never had anyone want to know so much about me! Gosh, I'm soooo behind. I've started things, finished things, got a secret pal, became a secret pal and yet, there's nothing new out here! Shame on me! Let me catch you up by showing you those bootie and bonnet pictures.

Of course, that's not a REAL baby that's wearing them. It's Gabby the Cabbage Patch girl doing a little modeling. Both of my friends are having/had a boy, so I went for the blue & white combo. I''ve mailed the packages off, but haven't heard anything back. Uh oh - that might not be such a good sign. The booties did have that whole elf-like pointy toe thing going for them, but that's only because SOMEONE cough-cough wouldn't email me their pattern for REALLY CUTE booties!

While I'm talking about babies & presents, let me give a shout-out to my favorite gift to give. I'm told by all the people who receive this gift from me that IT REALLY WORKS and they love it! It's a CD (or cassette) or sounds (such as the vacumn, clothes dryer) that seem to soothe a crying baby. I believe it was created by two ladies who live in my area (Richmond, Virginia) and who were/are both nurses. All I can say is that everyone I give it to is AMAZED at how well it works. I think the only place you can find it now is at www.cdbaby.com. So, if you're in the need, please check it out.

Off the Face of the Earth?

I'm back on the face of the Earth, and I've done a bad thing. I've been knitting behind your back. So sorry, but things have been moving at 100 mph lately and I can barely keep up. Well, most of my friends seem to be popping out babies these days so I'm WAY behind on the booties & bonnets. I've finished the first pair and working on the second. I'll post some pics. They are so tiny (and so cute). It's it GREAT to be able to finish a project in a weekend!! It's been a while, but we've accomplished quite a bit in the move-in, fix-up, unpacking world in which we live. And - GUESS WHAT -- I've got AFTER pictures for you. I hope you're as excited about this as I am. If you need to go back and see the BEFORE pictures, CLICK HERE.

First, as a little teaser, let's take a look at the dining room.

I know. There's really not alot of difference - except for the furniture. We didn't do alot of "work" in there. Moving along down the hall, we come to Sting's room:

I don't feel like I can get a good angle for the pictures, but I really like the colors she's chosen. We haven't painted it yet, and you can't see the, umm, PSL ("workroom") yet, but it's getting there.

For the big FINALE - the "Pepto Bismol Pink" bathroom:

BEFORE:

AFTER:

I wish I could take some of the credit, but that was all Seymour. I did pick out the color (sand/light chocolate brown), the light fixture, and hardware, but he did all the work. (Hey, picking out the colors is a HUGE accomplishment for me. But lets not bring up the whole Mexican bathroom fiasco, okay?) We haven't put the new hardware on the sinks, and we may replace the countertop, but I sure like it MUCH better than the before!

Sorry, that's all I have for right now. The other rooms are a tad messy. And, it's Easter weekend and gotta get ready to do some travelling. Have a safe, wonderful, blessed weekend, because Charlotte said so. Cables - or at least these cables - are very easy to do. I'm using some Rowan Cork that I found on clearance at LYS and this yarn rocks! I'm definetly not a yarn snob (yeah, I got fun fur and acrylic - so what), but there is something about this yarn (my first Rowan too). The color is a purple/maroon color. Isn't it enough? I'm worn out just walking through this much of the house. I still haven't shown the unfinished basement, bedroom, and washroom, but, honestly, there isn't much too see there. But just wait until I start posting the AFTER pictures! I think it's starting to look good. Next time, I'll get some serious photos up here (of my current knitting projects)! You walk in the front door and you see the living room:

Love the fireplace, skylights and vaulted ceilings. If you can't tell, the sliding glass doors are very wide (about 7 ft) and there is so much sunlight!

What's the downside - you ask? If you turn to walk back to the foyer, you see "The Big Red Wall." Don't ask me. Yeah, it's one of those things we will try to change! You can also see the upstairs catwalk to the master bedroom and a window into the master.

Now, while you're in the foyer, if you turn to your immediate left, you'll see the dining room. It faces into the front yard, has huge windows and skylights.

Immediately past the dining room is the kitchen.

Yes, more windows and a built-in wine rack. Hmm, that may come in handy. Uh, yeah, that is BRIGHT RED COUNTERTOPS you are looking at (we're working on it). I hate those cabinets too. Yuck. They will be replaced (eventually). All the applicances are OUT right now and we'll be getting new ones tomorrow. NO, the baskets are not mine - leftovers from the prior owners who decided not to return and get their last items. And, YES, that is the little cheeries wallpaper. I know it look likes plaid, but TRUST ME - it ain't! That's getting painted today. The kitchen window looks out into the fenced in back yard, where you can see Charlotte:

Oh PLEASE! You don't expect her to be sitting on the GROUND to do??

Since we're in the kitchen, let's take a break and have a cup of coffee, shall we??

Ready to see more??

Movin' on up!

We've moved! We're in our newhouse! It's starting to give me a headache.

The house is a mess - boxes everywhere. It needs some work and some lovin'. We're having some painting done on Thurday & Friday. Goodbye little cherries kitchen wallpaper & pepto bismol pink bath. We have new kitchen appliances coming on Saturday. New bedroom furniture on Friday. Hot tub cleaners coming on Saturday (i.e. "the kids"). What? You wonder how the sunken whirlpool bath works in the master bath? It's marvahlous, darlings! Just what the aching back, feet, shoulders, neck and legs need.

Pics will be posted soon. As soon as I get it all back online.

Oh, the Irish Hiking Scarf - you gotta see it. It's beautiful, if I do say so myself - and I do - have to - cause it is! Can't believe how simple the cabling is. It's my first. Gotta run now. What a great week!! I've been a little slack since the Games. Right now, we're in the middle of a house move. Out by this Sunday and into the new on Monday. Wait - how's that work? So, other than sneaking in a few midnight stitches, I haven't been ALLOWED to knit. (Whatever that means!). But, I'm making progress on my Holiday Red Poncho. And, planning the future, I've signed up for the Irish Hiking Scarf Knitalong and the Sexy Knitters Club Knitalong. Can you say Peer Pressure?? The Irish Scarf has cabling which I have never done. I'm really excited about it. And last night I found some beautiful green yarn (it has to be GREEN, right??). I'll sneak in some pics later. Wish me well with the move. I had a GREAT weekend. Watched the Olympics; knit; watched some more; knit; repeat over and over. I have finished with my reverse stockingette portion of Bobbilicious. I'm starting the final section of bobbles. The reverse ST moved along very quickly. I'm really loving the way this looks - even my quirky looking little nubbins (or 'skin tags' as I saw someone refer to them)! Here's where I'm at now:

I can actually see the finish line! I NEVER thought I would be able to do this - especially after the difficult start(s) I had. I'm really glad that the Yarn Harlot came up with this idea. On my own, I probably would have given up this project a long time ago. Now, I'm so happy I didn't!

Bobble, Bobble - Who's Got the Bobble?

I do, I do! After a couple of "false starts," Bobblicious was finally starting to take shape. GO ME! Finally, progress is being made. Where did that come from??

Shoot, being an Olympic Athlete is quite the challenge. I guess I really shouldn't knit while watching Bode Miller, Plechenko, Joey Cheeks, and the other male athletes that compete in those snug little jumpsuits they wear. Do you think that had something to do with this accidental double-bobble I knitted? Hmmm, one can only speculate. Sometimes, you have to put down the needles and WALK AWAY FROM THE BOBBLES.

But that doesn't make me a quitter. Actually I felt it might be a bit more of a challenge to try to finish SOMETHING during the games. So, I picked up something safe, like My So Called Scarf. Done - fini - complete - chalk one up! I really like it!

The funny thing is this was my first yarn that I bought to practice on when I took my first knitting class in November. It ended up being a long, garter stitch scarf which (to me) closely resembled a potholder. So, I got in a mood, ripped it up, and ta-dah - a scarf I actually like! Thanks to Sheepinthecity for the pattern!

So, now I'm trying to decide - should I start something a little less challenging - like say - an AFGHAN or is it back to Bobbilicious? I think I'll wait for my breathing/heartbeat to return to normal before I make that decision. Hope everyone else is hanging in there!

On Your Mark, Get Set, start over

Uggg, 55 stitches row 1, row 2 57 stitches, but I don't notice until row 8. This one is not too big, not too square, and seems pretty tight (i.e. no holes)! I'll try to post a picture later, but here's the pattern:

Increase 4 in one stitch ending up with 5 stitches. (Most patterns call for kf & kb twice, but I had a really hard time doing it this way - I think because I knit on the tight side. So I used the k yo k yo k (but be careful to keep your yarn taunt).

Turn work and purl in the same 5 stitches (again keeping the yarn and stitches taunt).

Turn again and knit 5.

Turn again (WS) and purl 5. BUT DON'T TURN IT YET. Stitches will be on the right needle. Slip the 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th stitches off the needle (as if you were binding off).

Turn k1 into the back of the stitch.

Ta Dah! Hopefully you will get a tight, semi-round, no-holed, nubbin' looking bobble.

Repeat 237,569,000 more times. ;-p

IF for some insane reason your bobbles don't turn out perfect, have a drink. Eventually, they will start to look better and better.

Good luck, happy knitting, and, hey, let's be safe out there!

Bobbleheads Unite!

Hello my bobble-challenged friends! You're out there and you know who you are! Just wanted to let you know I found a few additional sites that have bobble-tutorials. Yep, got the new car and boy is it SCHWEET!!! I really enjoyed driving it for one full day before turning the keys over to the hubby. Ahhh, it was like a dream! But wait, that's not all, we got an offer on our house. This news is most exciting because we already have an offer out on a new house that we want to buy. Well, technically, it's not new - as in just built. There was a family living in it and another before them. But, it's new to us. So in "car-speak", we're getting a used house. Used, schmoozed - it's twice as big as what we have now so that makes me INCREDIBLY PSYCHED. That's right - twice as big. We're going from about 1400 sq. ft. to 2800 sq ft. You know what that means - just THINK OF THE YARN that house will hold. I don’t want to discuss how my beautiful cashmere “Holiday Poncho” (which was 2/3 finished) is now going to be started again from the beginning (something to do with a force of nature. I’m sure it wasn’t because of something I did. Anyway, we’re not going to talk about that.

Instead, on my way to the LYS, I was listening to NPR (yes, it is possible) and they were discussing the somewhat sorry state of current political affairs: who was seen with whom, who was accused of stealing what, who was accepting money from whom, etc. You’ve heard it before. You get the idea. And I started thinking (yes, that too is possible) that “our” lack of interest in all things politics and overall “acceptance” of political corruption is quite sad & depressing. (I’m speaking in general – of course - and oversimplifying and making great assumptions. But, go ahead and play along. Oh, and present company is included.) I also thought it’s kind of “silly” that we have “celebrities” that run (and get elected) for public office. To use technical terms, “it’s whacked!” But just then, another lightening bolt struck. On second thought, maybe all politicians should be celebrities. After all, there is great interest in where Paris Hilton goes, what she wears, and who – sorry, I mean – what she does. We’re all quite aware of those things. So, if Paris, Brad, Jen & Angelina were our politicians, maybe – just maybe – we would ALL be so interested and concerned with everything they do and say. And, we’d all be ready to pass judgment for whatever they did – right or wrong. Hmmmm … might not be a perfect world, but it is an idea. So, I bring this up at the LYS for discussion. Sally was there and proceeded to shoot down my idea. She thought I was incorrect about:

• People today not being interested in/concerned with politics;
• Most politicians are corrupt;
• Corruption is just a part of politics;
• People today are more concerned with people named Jen, Ben, Brad or Britney.
• And that celebrities would make good politicians. (They wouldn’t, she said, because quite a few are … uh, not very smart.)

For the record, I never stated that celebrities would make good politicians. I just thought it might raise the general level of interest in politics. (And, I didn’t argue with the “smart” comment. Unfortunately, I had to agree that the same could also be said about some politicians). She continued to say that just because Angelina had adopted 2 babies, had been married 3 times, and was pregnant now, that did not mean that she should be or would be a good, public official. To which I stated that she had only been married twice – as of yet, the third (with Brad Pitt) hasn’t happened. So, then, we discussed who she had been married to, when, and why (supposedly) it had ended. After which, Sally gasped, put her hand over her mouth and said, “Oh my, now we ARE sitting here discussing Hollywood gossip!” BINGO! I think I made my point.

Olympic Training ... I really love the spice color. I've finished the front piece and am working on the back now (or vice versa since they're identical). I have no idea "how to" sew the pieces together, but I'll jump that bridge when I get to it. My hubby, Seymour, saw me working on it for the first time last night. He seemed amazed. "Wow, I didn't know you were making a REAL sweater. That looks great." He seemed shocked by the fact that he actually liked something that I was making. Hmpf. Whut up wif dat? See if he gets a scarf, sock, hat or ANYTHING for that matter. Serve him right.
Making so much progress on my sweater is really getting me pumped for the Olympics. I can't wait. Of course, that was probably the kiss of death. I'll probably never finish the sweater now. I've mentioned the Olympics, right? Must knit something new & challenging beginning with opening ceremonies and finishing it by closing ceremonies. If you aren't into that, you can join The Homer Simpson Olympic Knitalong (which means knit nothing during the Olympics, but watch it and drink a lot of beer). It was a tough call, but I love a challenge. I haven't been able to get a lot of my kniting buddies to sign up -- only Anny (but we all know she has big ones). Everyone else seems to be too chickenshit, but I'm not naming any names (Brooks). People keep telling me ... I have "a problem." What do you think?

LOOK - my own button - I AM SO PSYCHED!

Finished

</br.>

In my Christmas madness, these were my finished gifts:

White fuzzy scarf for my sister

Fun Fur scarf for my other sister

There was quite a 50 scarf frenzy. I believe I may have been slightly "feverish" when I signed up for this. Here's my entry: It's Bobblicious! Since I started "training", I have actually attempted and completed 3 bobbles!! TaDah! And I didn't even know what in the hell a bobble was. My confidence level is starting to rise and I think I may have a chance to bring home the gold. That is if my "equipment" actually arrives sometime before the games begin. I'm using the same color shown in the picture - the deep wine. I can't wait. I made A LOT of progress on my sweater this weekend. I finished the front and I'm half-way through the back. I just need to finish the back, sew it together and voila - my first sweater. So, I should be finished in -- what -- 2 or 3 years?

My first born - Charlotte

UFOs

My current UFOs (or WIPs as I like to call them) are:

A scarf for the Diva (not at the top of my list)

A Sparkle & Shine scarf for The Old Bag (which I'm sure she won't like)

My So Called Scarf for Me (I LOVE LOVE LOVE this pattern and yarn). I can’t quite put the feeling into words. You feel so … great, empowered, and larger than life. And the creativity seems to just ooze out of you. I started out small, just like everyone else. I thought I could control it; I’d never get hooked. Not me. I’d just do a little every now and then. Just relieve a little stress -- to relax. That’s how it started. I think that’s how it always starts. Now I have stashes where I don’t even know I have stashes. But I always need more!! I’m looking for the perfect one … it’s out there.

Hello, my name is Anita and I’m a full-blown knitting addict.
